Manstons Golf Club, Kent

A converted container was required to add an extension to the club house as a seating area for their customers and serve food in a comfortable environment with views over the course.

After reviewing several options they chose a container conversion as it gave them the space that they needed at a cost that they were happy with.

In this case, we worked with a designer before carrying out the conversion off site, joining a 20ft and a 40ft container to make a club room. A separate 20ft for the kitchen was also provided with serving hatches outside and into the seating area.

The management of this 9 hole golf course with driving range, golf shop and adventure golf located in Manston on the main road into Thanet wanted to create an area for customers to eat and drink.

This new facility was to be called ‘The Tenth Café & Bar’.

They needed something which would have a contemporary design, be environmentally friendly and have great views across the golf course.

After looking at a number of options, the club decided that converted and customised shipping containers were the most cost effective and least disruptive option as most of the work could be carried out off-site.

We repurposed containers that had been used already to move cargo from the Far East over to the UK.

A single 40ft container and a pair of 20ft containers were combined so that they could create a larger open area, which would include windows and patio doors, for an open and airy feel. The units were resprayed, lined, laid with flooring and fitted with electrics.

The installation of the container club house took place over the course of just a week meaning the golf club’s customers were inconvenienced minimally and could enjoy it sooner. The lack of noise and mess that a traditional build would’ve created was greatly appreciated.

A terraced area was installed on top of the containers to maximise the amount of space for Manston’s customers (and to provide the fantastic views of the golf course and driving range!)

The third container, which houses the kitchen was fully kitted out ready to start cooking. It also boasts two serving hatches. One to the outside world, but also one which connects to the indoor seating area meaning food can continue to be given to waiting staff even when the weather outside is unfavourable.

The container was converted in good time in one of our workshops by staff who also visited site to install the café meaning they could check that all fixtures and fittings were correctly assembled to stand the test of time.

The Tenth Café & Bar is now fully operational and offering a great choice of hot and cold food to their customers using their shipping container clubhouse. Their gourmet burgers and daily specials along with the excellent views are going down well with customers. (Along with the bacon rolls, which are apparently the best a customer ever had!)
