The Goodness Brewery

This client wanted to use a container as a bar in London.

Chief concerns were cost and security.

The bar needed two independently-opening hatches to give the option of using one or two depending on how busy the bar was.

A staff access and a storage area for their chilling equipment and equipment for the pumps were also needed and a standard electrics pack and lighting were installed.

We did all the conversion and interior installation work for this job, which was required quickly.

Three friends, Mike, Zack and Damien, who had a love of home brewing started this brewery in 2015.

Very quickly this grew into The Goodness Brewing Co. that it is today. Their values are to have fun, but also to have a positive social impact in the community, much like ours at Qube Containers!

The Goodness Brewery (TGB) needed a container bar to be sited outside their new brewery site at Clarendon Yards, Woods Green in North London.

They wanted their shipping container bar to have two lockable hatches which would open independently on the side so that they could just have one hatch open during quieter times, but have both open during peak times. An additional area was needed which could be used for their chilling equipment and the pump equipment used for dispensing beer.

A personnel door was needed to allow staff to gain access to the bar easily, without needing to operate the cargo doors. This lightweight door would also mean that staff would only need to use one hand to open and close it.

In terms of the rest of the fitout a plumbed in sink was required to allow washing of hands and equipment to be undertaken to keep the bar clean and hygienic.
Counters, which were at the correct height were also needed to allow staff to work at a convenient height for them.

With regards to the electrics in the container the smaller, partitioned area required three two-way plug sockets to power the equipment in there as well as a single strip light allowing staff to see even when the lighting was dim.

In the front of house part of the bar we installed six two-way plug sockets to allow ample flexibility for powering equipment as well as four electric pendant ceiling lights for illumination, but also ambience.

The Goodness Brewery was looking for sustainability in the project, which suited the reuse of a shipping container very well. On top of this reclaimed wood was to be used to create a bar top along the bottom of the hatches.

We took all of the clients’ requirements on board and liaised with them in agreeing a final set of drawings to work to.

Once the go-ahead was given the project was swiftly started. A wooden bulkhead was created to allow a smaller, separate area to be used as a cellar. Apertures were cut out and strengthened before the two hatches were installed which included gas struts for safety to slow down the speed at which they close.

The finished container was then painted in the RAL colour of the customer’s choice and given signage to complete the look.

The customer was very happy with the speed and quality of the conversion and excited their patrons with the thought of being able to order and enjoy an IPA out in the sun.
